House 5x02 - Not Cancer - Review

Before this episode aired I figured that House would probably be pretty hard hit by Wilson's departure and in order to cover this up he would be acting as though Wilson was never that important anyway (he did try to do this at the start so I think I get at least half a precognition point) and thus when faced with the patient of the week he would claim that Wilson as an oncologist is only useful when it's cancer and here clearly it's "Not Cancer". I was almost right, apart from that bit where I was completely wrong. In order to attempt to involve Wilson he proclaims that it is Cancer time and time again. However in the end it is, as the episode proclaims, Not Cancer.

I liked House's Hunt For New Friends (tm) with Doctor O'Shay and then his new private investigator friend. I imagine that the private investigator is probably getting some stick from House/Wilson fanatics everywhere but he's a good character I think. He's made it very clear that he doesn't really like House and that he's only there for the money, which makes an interesting dynamic and actually seems a lot like House and Wilson's dynamic except without the money.

Most other characters took something of a back seat during this episode. Cuddy especially. She only stuck her head around the door to get in the way and complain that coffee makers are so expensive nowadays. However I did like Kutner's little experiment. It harkens back to the last series where he managed to set a patient on fire and electrocute himself. Kutner seems to just enjoy trying things and to hell with the risks. I like that about him.

Also if that wasn't enough, Felicia Day, off of Doctor Horrible's Singalong Blog, played a patient who if I heard correctly was named Apple. Good or what?

All in all I think it was a good episode and I'm looking forward to seeing how the dynamic between House and Wilson continues.
