Writer's Block: Over-the-Top Metaphors

Detective stories are stereotypically full of over-the-top metaphors: "The villain's hand stroked the cat the way his sins stroked his black soul. His voice, rough as the city's nighttime streets and twice as terrifying, barked orders to his lackeys. They scattered like parents who just realized they forgot to pick up a child from school." Write a short scene using some of your own extreme metaphors and similes.

Red, like the blood of a hooker murdered on the mean streets, the cherry sat atop the slice of cake like a conquering king atop his throne. The icing was as black as the night itself and lay across a layer of icing as white as cold dead skin. It spelt out fragments of a message "happy" the word birthday was on another slice. It left the message looking shortened and unnatural as though the grip of death had took hold of the messenger before the message could be completed. A number of candles lay discarded in a pile to the side of the plate like a heap of dead bodies waiting to be buried, their fire long since snuffed out.
