Okay so recently when I've seen adverts for DVDs aside from going on about all the usual rubbish. You know like "this is the best film that was ever made. it will change your life and your socks and your hair colour." etcetera. Well now they seem to be really plugging away at those DVD extras. And I don't get it. I just don't understand. You're promoting the things that weren't good enough to be put into the actual movie? Deleted scenes are usually deleted for a reason and anyone who buys something based on the fact that they might see some things which were deleted is probably in for a big surprise.
However I might have seen them saying about deleted scenes before recently. Usually the catch-all term "a wealth of DVD extras" is wheeled out. However the thing that's really caught my attention recently is the advertisement of alternate endings. I don't understand it. Okay if you want to watch an alternate ending that's your business and some indecisive filmmakers evidently like making alternate endings as well, but whatever. Why however would you put this down as your main selling point? Next the adverts will be coming on announcing 'now with # hours of director's commentaries'.

It just seems so futile that they might as well be advertising that their DVD now comes in a box. Nobody is going to buy it for the extras, so what's the point?

On the other hand DVD extras are what makes DVDs special so they should advertise every single little feature of the extras in the hope that it will attract people who weren't going to buy the DVD previously. It obviously makes sense. Obviously.

Also note the strangely appropriate music I'm listening to. Well vaguely strangely appropriate. It's about an ending. How much more strange or appropriate do you want it to be?
